She believes you never stop learning and is committed to continued education. She has also worked as a mentor for new graduate dentists, sharing her passion for the craft.

When not at the practice, Lizzie most enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, and when there's time, getting creative with photography, baking and keeping active at the gym.

Sedation Dentistry

Dental anxiety is common and it stops many people getting the care they need, often feeling like it's too far gone or hopeless, which is never the case. Dr Dove now offers treatment with the added comfort of nitrous oxide (happy gas) and can provide dental treatment under twilight sedation (IV sedation), which is provided by a dental sedationist.

Importantly, IV sedation is performed by an amazing, caring team right here in the dental chair at your usual clinic, with Dr Lizzie doing your general dental treatment, or if specialist care is required, one of her caring and skilled colleagues providing the treatment. No hospital, friendly and familiar faces at your appointment, no separate referral. Just a familiar environment and team you know, with the added comfort of sedation.

IV sedation is also ideal for patients who want to complete multiple treatments more comfortably in fewer appointments.

Aesthetically Driven Invisalign & Restorations

Dr Dove's particular area of interest is Invisalign combined with aesthetic restorative procedures. With careful planning, this means not just straight teeth, but the best shape, size and colour for your best smile possible. She plans tooth movements with the final shape and proportion of the teeth in mind, creating space and ideal positioning for composite bonding, veneers or crowns after straightening.

Every situation is different. The goal is always straight teeth and a balanced, natural-looking smile.

Dentistry without the anxiety

Sometimes just having the right dentist can be enough to help reduce your dental anxiety. When more help is needed, Dr Lizzie Dove, working with her caring team, is able to offer treatment under two levels of conscious sedation: nitrous sedation (happy gas) and IV sedation (often called sleep dentistry or twilight sedation). Conscious sedation means that while you are sedated, you are still responsive, you breathe on your own and respond to questions, it is different to a general anaesthetic where you are fully unconscious and need airway support. The right option depends on your anxiety level, medical history and the treatment being planned, she will discuss this with you at your consultation.

IV Sedation

IV sedation (intravenous sedation) is the most effective option for patients with significant dental anxiety or those undergoing complex or lengthy treatment. Sedative medication is delivered directly into the bloodstream, producing a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state. Most patients have little or no memory of the procedure.

  • Suitable for significant dental anxiety or phobia
  • Performed in the dental chair at your usual clinic. No hospital admission
  • Dr Lizzie carries out your treatment, so you're with a familiar face throughout
  • Allows multiple treatments to be completed in a single appointment
  • Extractions including wisdom teeth, without a referral to a specialist or hospital
  • Little to no memory of the procedure for most patients
  • Faster recovery than general anaesthesia
  • Continuous monitoring throughout
  • A prior consultation is required to assess suitability

Dr Lizzie Dove can provide general dental treatment with IV sedation delivered by a dental sedationist at Pacific Smiles Dental Helensvale. Many extractions and wisdom tooth removals that would otherwise require a specialist referral or hospital general anaesthetic can be performed comfortably in the chair with IV sedation, where the clinical complexity allows. A consultation is required first to assess your individual situation.

Mild Sedation

Nitrous Oxide (Happy Gas)

Nitrous oxide is a safe, gentle inhaled sedative administered through a small mask over the nose. It takes effect within minutes, leaving you calm and relaxed while remaining fully conscious throughout. The effects wear off quickly.

  • Works within minutes, clears quickly after treatment
  • You can drive yourself home afterwards
  • Safe for most adults and children
  • The level can be adjusted by Dr Dove throughout your appointment
  • Ideal for mild-to-moderate anxiety, needle phobia or strong gag reflex
  • Available for most routine and restorative appointments

Happy gas delivered by Dr Lizzie Dove while she provides dental treatment is available for most treatments, including your 6 monthly clean. Let us know when booking if you'd like it included, no referral needed.

Extractions & Wisdom Teeth

Avoid a specialist referral or hospital GA, where clinically appropriate

Many patients are referred to oral surgeons or booked for hospital general anaesthesia for extractions and wisdom tooth removal due to anxiety, when the clinical complexity doesn't actually require it. With IV sedation, these procedures can often be carried out comfortably in the dental chair, saving patients the cost, wait time and recovery associated with a hospital procedure.

Wisdom tooth extractions performed under IV sedation in the chair

No hospital admission or general anaesthetic required for suitable cases

Faster recovery and lower cost than a hospital procedure

Available at Pacific Smiles Dental Helensvale

Suitability is assessed at a prior consultation. Not all extractions can be performed in-chair, complex cases will be referred appropriately.

Invisalign & Aesthetic Treatments · Gold Coast

More than just straight teeth

When we aesthetically straighten teeth we need to look at more than just correcting crowding or crookedness. We need to look at shape and colour too, and plan for that before straightening begins.

Why planning matters

Often when teeth have been in the wrong position or rotated, they have worn down unevenly. It may not be noticeable when they're crowded, but once straightened it becomes obvious. To create a balanced, youthful-looking smile, Dr Dove plans before straightening what improvements will be made to the shape and colour of the teeth.

Depending on what is needed, options include tooth whitening, composite bonding, veneers and crowns. Where these are planned affects where the teeth are positioned during Invisalign treatment. Without this foresight, there may be insufficient space for improvements and large aesthetic compromises are made.

Dr Dove's approach to Invisalign

Dr Dove became an accredited Invisalign provider in 2013. She then had the opportunity to work with the Post Graduate School of Dentistry to help develop and deliver their Graduate Diploma of Aesthetic Orthodontics (Sequential Aligner Therapy) to fellow dentists. This gave her a deep understanding of dental and facial aesthetics and the skills to deliver multidiscipline treatment combining Invisalign with restorative procedures.

Having skills in both clear aligner treatment and aesthetic restorative procedures means she looks at the whole picture, working with each patient to achieve not only straight teeth but balanced proportions and ideal tooth display.

Treatments that can be combined

  • Tooth whitening after Invisalign
  • Composite bonding, to restore shape, length and proportion
  • Porcelain veneers, for cases requiring changes to colour as well as shape
  • All-ceramic crowns, where teeth are heavily restored or damaged
  • Worn dentition rehabilitation

Every situation is unique. A consultation is required to assess whether Invisalign is suitable and to develop a treatment plan. Results vary between patients.

Patient case example

Invisalign + Composite Bonding: how combined planning changes the outcome

This patient's front teeth bit end to end. Uneven crowding had caused severe wear to both upper and lower front teeth, creating a smile that looked aged.

Invisalign and composite bonding before, mid-treatment and after – Dr Lizzie Dove Gold Coast

Rather than purely straightening the teeth, Dr Dove planned specific tooth movements to allow the teeth to be restored afterwards with composite bonding to create ideal proportions, not just a straight result.

  • Movement 1

Upper front teeth intruded to level the gum line and create space to add length with composite resin, restoring what was lost to wear.

  • Movement 2

Lower front teeth pushed down further than level to allow composite resin to restore lost structure and improve the width-to-length ratio.

  • Movement 3

Space created beside the lateral teeth, allowing them to be built wider and longer with bonding, creating golden proportions between adjacent teeth.

None of these improvements would have been possible without planning them into the Invisalign ClinCheck from the start.

Results vary between patients. Images shared with patient consent for educational purposes.

Veneers & Restorations

Finding the right option for your teeth

Often patients come in asking for "veneers" but the best option depends on the condition of the teeth, how they bite together, your desired outcome and cost. Under the umbrella of veneers falls several different treatment options, each with its own advantages.

Porcelain veneers result Gold Coast – Dr Lizzie Dove

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding before and after Gold Coast – Dr Lizzie Dove

Chosen when a patient is happy with the colour of their teeth but improvements to shape are needed. Composite resin is added to replace worn edges, broken areas or to increase the size of small teeth.

Advantage: Often done without any preparation of the teeth, minimally invasive. Disadvantage: composite does wear, lose shine and discolour over time.

Composite Veneers

Chosen when the colour of teeth is a concern. A layer of composite resin is placed over the front surface, similar to a false nail. Can be done with or without preparation of the teeth depending on the situation.

Advantage: Can significantly improve aesthetics, completed in one visit, lower cost than ceramic. Disadvantage: composite wears, loses shine and discolours over time.

Ceramic (Porcelain) Veneers

Chosen when the highest natural aesthetics are the goal. Each veneer is custom made by a dental technician with natural variation in colour and shape, a result that can be indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Advantage: Stronger, high-shine, plaque and stain resistant. In most cases, some preparation of the teeth is required. Disadvantage: higher cost and typically irreversible.

Ceramic Crowns

Chosen when teeth already have large fillings and the tooth structure is compromised. A crown encapsulates the whole tooth, front, back, top and sides. Where possible veneers are chosen to conserve tooth structure, but for heavily broken down or filled teeth, a crown is the better option.

Multiple front teeth can be treated with a combination of veneers and crowns to suit the condition of each individual tooth.

There are many treatment options to improve the appearance of teeth and the best option is different in every case. A clinical assessment is always required before any treatment is recommended.

Get in Touch
In many cases, yes. Wisdom tooth extractions and other complex extractions that are often referred to oral surgeons or performed under hospital general anaesthesia can be carried out comfortably in the dental chair with IV sedation, where the clinical complexity allows. This saves patients the cost, waiting time and recovery of a hospital procedure. Suitability is assessed at a prior consultation with Dr Dove. Cases that genuinely require specialist care will always be referred appropriately.
Yes. Dr Lizzie Dove provides dental treatment under IV sedation provided by a dental sedationist at Pacific Smiles Dental Helensvale on the Gold Coast. It's a relatively specialised service not offered by all general dental practices. Patients from across the Gold Coast, including Broadbeach, Southport, Robina, Burleigh Heads, Tweed Heads and surrounds, are welcome to enquire.
Nitrous oxide is a mild inhaled sedative that relaxes you while keeping you fully conscious, you can drive home afterwards. IV sedation is administered intravenously and produces a much deeper, sleep-like state; most patients have little or no memory of the procedure and will need someone to drive them home. Dr Dove will recommend the right option based on your anxiety level, medical history and the treatment planned.
Yes, and this is a particular area of focus for Dr Dove. She plans Invisalign tooth movements with the final restorations in mind, creating the right positioning and space for composite bonding, veneers or crowns after straightening is complete. This integrated planning from the start makes a significant difference to the final outcome.
When teeth have been crowded or in the wrong position, they often wear unevenly. Once straightened, this wear becomes more visible, not less. If the Invisalign ClinCheck (treatment plan) isn't designed with the restorations in mind, there may be insufficient space for composite bonding or veneers afterwards, leading to aesthetic compromises that can't easily be undone.
No referral is needed. Contact Pacific Smiles Dental Helensvale directly. For IV sedation, Dr Dove will consult with you prior to review your medical history and treatment needs, to assess your eligibility and create a treatment plan for you before booking a sedation appointment.
You will need to fast for a minimum of 6 hours beforehand and arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. Dr Dove's team will provide a full pre-appointment checklist at your consultation.
Composite bonding uses tooth-coloured resin to change the shape of teeth, it's often minimally invasive and can be done without drilling. Porcelain veneers are custom-made by a dental technician and offer higher aesthetics, greater strength and stain resistance, but generally require some preparation of the tooth surface. The best option depends on the condition of your teeth, your bite, what you're hoping to change and your budget. A clinical assessment is always required.
